Working in the Public Sector
One place. A diverse range of careers.
There are a large number of advantages to working in the Public Sector in North
Yorkshire. In terms of variety and depth of different careers, the Public Sector is vast, spanning a large number of professional and trade areas, so there's a career to suit all abilities, all experiences and all backgrounds. The working environment is dynamic. It's fair. And it's flexible. Let's face it, the structure of the labour market in the UK has changed dramatically over the last few years and will continue to change, so the Public Sector has made sure it moves with the times to accommodate the needs of its workforce. In addition, throughout most of the North Yorkshire Together organisations, a number of benefits are offered.
Flexible Working
This generally allows you to vary the time when you start and finish your day within certain parameters, allowing you to fit your social and domestic circumstances and responsibilities in with your work.
Holidays
From organisation to organisation, holiday entitlement will vary. For more information on this, please refer to the individual organisations' websites. They'll indicate the holiday entitlement on offer within their particular organisation.
Pension
The Public Sector Pension Scheme is a contributory scheme. This means that employees contribute a percentage of pensionable earnings. The Council also makes a contribution to provide a defined benefit pension, lump sum retiring allowance, death in service cover, spouse's pension and ill health retirement provisions.
Relocation Packages
Assistance is available within most organisations to provide, in appropriate cases, towards relocation costs. This assistance is normally available to newly appointed staff and their household, who may find it necessary to move house as a result of their appointment.
