Living in North Yorkshire

One place. So many reasons to live here.

North Yorkshire offers an excellent quality of life. Stray just a few miles from our cosmopolitan urban centres and you're surrounded by dramatic countryside. And, with beautiful national parks on the doorstep, the region defines the perfect combination of work life balance. And with a lower cost of living and home prices below the national average, North Yorkshire has a lot to offer. And more.

Looking for things to do? Look no further. There are loads of museums, tours and theme parks to amuse you for hours here. Get lost in York Maze and let the talking wooden sculptures help you find the exit. Fancy a fright? Visit Whitby's Dracula Museum or York Dungeon. You could even join a ghost walk!

The River Ouse in York is perfect for guided boat tours. Better still, hire your own boat. Or wander towards Wensleydale, and The Forbidden Corner near Leyburn with its labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises set in a beautiful four-acre garden.

Betty's tea shop in Harrogate

And of course, you can't miss out on our famous food! You've got to try the kipper smokery in Whitby and the rock shop on Church Street, followed by Betty's in Harrogate for cream tea.

Or if you fancy a more relaxed pace, take in the famous Victorian Turkish baths in Harrogate, and the solitude of the North York Moors with its oceans of purple heather drenched moorland. Step back in time and discover the grandeur of stately homes and the majestic ruins of abbeys and castles.

Alternatively, if you prefer activities with a generous serving of adrenalin. There are plenty of heart pounding sports to enjoy, from gliding to sailing and walking to horse riding.
