Information for the Disabled

The public sector is always seeking ways to ensure that those with disability have access to the services and support they need.

Finding Work

There are a variety of schemes in place to open up routes to employment and the public sector welcomes the responsibility to remove any barriers from our selection process which might be found for example in the job description, person specification or at interview. If you are disabled and envisage any barriers, you should make this known on your application as the public sector is committed to making reasonable adjustments for you to do the job wherever possible and needs to know your needs in order to support you.

Guaranteed Interview Scheme

If you’re disabled and apply for a job at North Yorkshire County Council, you will be offered an interview if you can demonstrate you meet the essential criteria on the person specification.

Work for those with Learning Disabilities

North Yorkshire County Council provides a supported employment service to help adults with learning disabilities find work by championing the skills of adults with learning disabilities to employers and helping them to gain experience and qualifications. If you are an adult with learning disabilities or an employer wanting to support people with learning disabilities, please contact Joss Harbron on 01609 535335 or www.northyorks.gov.uk/supportedemployment.

Housing and Benefits

You should get in touch with the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Job Centre to access services relating to housing and benefits.
